Florida State lengthens Jameis Winston's suspension to full game
Florida State has suspended Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston for the entirety of Saturday's game against Clemson, two days after announcing he would sit out only the first half.
In a statement released Friday evening, Florida State president Garnett S. Stokes said the decision came after an investigation by the school into an incident earlier this week in which Winston reportedly shouted an obscene catchphrase in a public area on campus.
"Based up on the results of our continuing investigation of Tuesday's incident involving Jameis Winston, we have decided not to play him for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday night," Stokes said in the statement.
Sophomore Sean Maguire will start in Winston's place for the Seminoles. Maguire has played in six career games at Florida State, throwing a total of 26 passes.
ESPN College GameDay host Chris Fowler tweeted late Friday that Seminoles head coachJimbo Fisher appeared intent on sticking with Winston's original punishment as recently as Friday afternoon:
Twists just keep coming in Winston story. Latest move to sit him WHOLE game total 180 from conversation with J.Fisher late today.

CNN's Rachel Nichols added the following:
Am being told increased penalty for FSU's Jameis Winston came after school discovered he'd not been entirely truthful with them.

Winston, a former Hueytown High School star, met with the media for his regularly scheduled press conference Wednesday. He began his session with a short apology:
"First of all, I just want to apologize to the university, to my coaches and to my teammates," Winston said. "I'm not a 'me' person, but, in that situation, that was a selfish act. And that's not how you do things around here.
"I really want to apologize to my teammates because I've now made a selfish act."
On Wednesday during the weekly ACC teleconference, Fisher said of the incident: "It was not a good decision. You can't make certain statements that are derogatory or inflammatory to any person, race or gender. You have to understand that.
"You have to be very intelligent about what you say, (because) it matters."
The phrase Winston screamed, a graphic description of sexual intercourse, has apparently become something of a catch-phrase among college-age students. You can read more about that in this Deadspin report (warning: language is extremely graphic).
USA Today reported earlier this month that Florida State had opened a Title IX investigationinto the 2012 sexual assault allegation. Under Title IX, a landmark 1972 law guaranteeing equal educational rights for female students, schools are required to investigate sexual assault claims, even if no legal charges are filed.
